Upper Mustang Trek Overview
Upper Mustang Trek; Upper Mustang is the one and only hidden kingdom of Nepal covering an area of 2020 km2 (780sq mi). The estimated population of this whole region is only 15000.
This region lies from (2800-3900m) above sea level. Mustang divides into two parts; Upper Mustang (Upper Mustang Trek)and Lower Mustang.
Due to tough weather conditions, winter migration takes place for a large number of the population to come down to Lower Mustang from Upper Mustang.
Similarly, Jomsom is the main town of this region. It has only one airport which runs only till 11 am due to strong wind there. In this Upper Mustang Trek Jomsom Airport is the most popular entrance.
Mustang is also a town behind the mountains a dry region. As the gigantic Mountains block the cloud from all sides rainfall hardly occurs in this region. It is also a restricted demilitarized area till 1992. Which has become the main reason for the preservation of their rich culture, language, and traditions.
The people here are mostly Thakali which is the main origin here and this region is mostly influenced by Buddhism. Mustang as a kingdom ended in 2008 when Nepal became a republic country.
